Bump Fighter® is the only shaver we know of specifically
designed to prevent the occurrence of razor bumps (pseudofolliculitis barbae). African American men suffer from razor bumps at a much higher rate than others. Finally, there is a razor blade designed specifically to help prevent razor bumps.
The Bump Fighter razor blade is designed with a Bump Guard®
that keeps the edge of the razor blade just slightly above the skin
level, preventing the blade from cutting the hair off too
closely. One of the major causes of razor bumps is when the
hair is clipped too close to the skin and/or at the wrong
angle. In African American men, where the hair tends to be
curly, this allows the hair to curl back under the skin causing
irritation. The combination of a shave gel like Shaver's Choice, which helps stand
the hair up straight before shaving (and keeps it straight after
shaving) and a blade like Bump Fighter® reduces the chance of
the hair curling back under the skin and causing painful razor
bumps. Bump Fighter is also a single blade (a rarity in these
days of up to five blades per cartridge). This is also done
purposely, to minimize skin irritation. Razors for black men are hard to come by. Bump Fighter razors are great for the problems that many black men have with shaving.
Bump Fighter razor blades are available in cartridges that fit a
contoured reusable handle with a rubber grip as well as in a (4) Pack
of all-in-one disposables. Initially, you should order the
handle that comes with (2) cartridges and order your cartridges in the
(5) packs. Or, you can go the disposable route, if you prefer.
