Will shampooing and conditioning your hair after right after applying this inhibit the color from covering gray hair? And what do I put in the henna? Some have suggested an egg, olive oil and apple cider but what amount? And how long do I leave it in? Is 90 minutes enough? Thanks! My hair in thin fine caucasian.
By Treasured Locks Staff on May 21, 2012

Answer:
Please shampoo before the application of the henna, not after. After the application you will rinse until the water runs clear, then condition.

Using apple cider vinegar in place of water will give better adherence of the henna. 60-90 minutes is sufficient time for the product to set properly. All other ingredients are best not used when applying henna. No eggs or olive oil please.

I purchased both Diva Smooth hair treatment and Baka´s Henna hair color. After reading the instructions on Baka´s hair coloring, I don´t know if I can use them together. Is it safe to use both treatments one after another?
By Treasured Locks Staff on October 20, 2011

Answer:
Yes. Diva Smooth can be used with henna coloring. The key is to remember the order. Make sure you use Diva Smooth before using the henna coloring. The henna coloring would be applied before flat ironing or pressing out the hair since applying the coloring will make the hair revert. You might notice the henna color darkening because of the heat.

Make sure to wait at least one week after doing henna coloring before applying Diva Smooth.

Last year, I ordered the Medium Brown color. Although the color was darker than expected, it worked very well (covered all grey) producing nice highlights! This year, I would like to have a lighter brown color with highlights. After reading other customer reviews, I was uncertain if the Auburn color or Mahogany color would provide me with lighter brown hair and nice highlights. I am aware that product selection is case-sensitive depending on several factors (type of hair, condition of hair, and individual response to henna products). Could you give me general advice on which color should produce lighter brown hair for me?
By Treasured Locks Staff on November 7, 2011

Answer:
In the Natural-Colors for Gray Hair there isn't a lighter brown option than the medium brown. In the other line of Natural-Colors there is a light brown color. The difference between the two is that the Natural-Colors for Gray Coverage is specially formulated to cover those stubborn gray hairs. If you want to try the Light Brown, you might find it works fine for you.

Please keep in mind that none of the henna treatments will give you lighter hair than your natural hair color. For example, if your hair is dark brown to begin with, using light brown will not lighten your hair. Lighter colors applied to dark hair will have minimal or no effect on the hair color.

Will Natural-Colors Henna lighten my hair?
By Treasured Locks Staff on July 24, 2012

Answer:
NO. Natural-Colors Henna does not contain any lightening chemicals. Blond henna brings out yellow and light brown highlights. Marigold Blond brings out gold and yellow highlights. Both add shine and body to gray hair.

Are there any chemicals in Natural-Colors for Gray Coverage?
By Treasured Locks Staff on July 24, 2012

Answer:
Natural-Colors for Gray Coverage contains less than 3% of a dye (after preparation). Recently, there have been reports that some chemical hair dyes might be linked to ovarian and breast cancer. This link is controversial. And, you know we don't like to perpetuate unproven rumors. It appears that at least some reputable professionals are concerned about this link. It looks like the greatest risk is to hair care professionals (who handle the products on a regular basis) and, if there is a link, it's weak at best. Darker colors and black are considered more risky because the chemicals in them are used at higher concentrations. Use of Natural-Colors for Gray Coverage minimizes potential risk from the use of the chemicals in permanent hair coloring products by using the dyes at a very low concentration.

I have about 50% grey hair and use a natural permanent hair color (no peroxide) that completely covers grey. Much of my grey hair is resistant and I have had it since age 21 years. I want to switch to henna because it is healthier and chemical-free. Can I use the Natural- Colors Henna for grey coverage on hair that has been previously colored with hair color? If yes, will I leave the henna on hair for the full 45 minutes? Are there any special procedures for using henna for grey coverage on previously colored hair? if yes, please explain.I have heard a rumor that henna will turn previously colored hair green in color. Of course, I don't want to risk having green hair.
Thanks for your help and directiion
By Treasured Locks Staff on December 19, 2011

Answer:
Natural-Colors for Grey Coverage is what you will want to use. Leave on for about an hour. It will not discolor previously colored hair. Full instructions for use are listed on our website and included with the product.

I purchased the henna for gray coverage, used it once. It did cover that well. I know I did follow directions completely. I forgot to use the apple cider vinegar and used water instead. However, i purchased more and plan to use it a second time. I want to know how to shampoo and condition my hair afterwards. I read somewhere that it is not advisable to use a leave in conditioner following a henna color treatment. Is this true?
By Treasured Locks Staff on March 12, 2012

Answer:
It is not true. It's fine to use a leave-in conditioner, after a properly applied henna color treatment.

Can I use this product along with the Natural-Laxer MIX?
By Treasured Locks Staff on March 30, 2012

Answer:
Yes. Natural-Laxer MIX works great with henna coloring. The key is to remember the order. If you're going to use both on the same day, make sure you use the Natural-Laxer MIX before using the henna coloring.

If you're going to apply them on different days, make sure to wait at least one week after doing henna coloring to apply Natural-Laxer MIX.

Beautiful color
March 20, 2014
I have been mixing chestnut, light brown, and medium brown to get gorgeous color. I get compliments all the time. Be sure and use vinegar to help the color stay on grey hair. Unfortunately, I have to redo it every 3-4 weeks. But, the stuff is the best I have found and I have been henna-ing my hair off and on for a decade.

Covers Gray
January 5, 2014
The product works well, however I chose dark brown and my hair ended up jet black. It is way too dark for me. I think maybe I left it on too long so next time I will choose two shades lighter. I appreciate how the product did not cause my hair to break like the regular hair dyes on the market. I will give it another chance.

Great Coverage & Gentle on Your Hair
December 17, 2013
I will never again be caught without my henna formulated for gray hair. I did so recently and used another well known brand. WHAT A MISTAKE! My hair was dull and started breaking. I have no chemical relaxer so my hair was in pretty decent condition. I have never had this problem with the henna. I also mix the colors (black & dark brown) for a more natural look. It takes a little extra time but it's well with it!

Best natural grey coverage you will find
November 11, 2013
I LOVE this product. I've tried other Henna colors but NONE cover my grey like this one, and it leaves my hair with so much sheen and it looks and feels healthy. Henna is a lot messier so I suggest you wear old clothes and I gave my brown a boost with using some tea instead of pure water to mix (as in the directions). I need two jars to color my chin-length hair but I highly recommend it!

Natural-Colors Henna Hair Color for Gray Coverage
November 4, 2013
I am excited to find a product that covers gray hairs in so many different colors. I am 30% gray and received full coverage with the black (ebony). It was a little darker than expected but I love the results. The next time I may try dark brown. Our culture (african-american) has become so far removed from how to care for our hair in the God given natural state that the only color options for natural hair colored by a professional beautician are red or blonde. I have consulted with several beauticians who all informed me that it was impossible to cover my gray hair black because I no longer relax my curls. Apparently the chemicals in the lye relaxers break-down the bonds of the hair and allow the shaft to asorb the dye. In the absence of the perm my only options were the primary color red or lift and strip for blonde. I am so pleased with this product. I am excited that I do not have to resort to mixing henna and indigo to achieve black hair. I was at a loss for what to do until I found this product. Thank you Treasured Locs for bringing our culture such a quality product.

Covered my gray hair cause " Ain't nobody got time for that"
November 1, 2013
I am really pleased with the results I got from using this product. I mixed one jar of the dark brown for grays with (four tablespoon of each) braggs apple cider vinegar, strong freshly brewed coffee, plain yogurt (with the fat), and olive oil. I applied the mixture to freshly washed damp hair that I put into four sections. I found it easier to apply the product using my hands that were protected by gloves. I put a plastic cap on and sat under the dryer for 60 minutes. Lastly, i washed the product from my hair and conditioned it and blotted dry using a tee shirt. The results were amazing! my grays are totally covered. I will redo the process in six weeks.

Not Natural
July 24, 2013
Very disappointed to find out that this "natural" henna contains 3% PPD, a chemical hair dye. I did not do my research when ordering, and now I am sorry that I used it on my hair. The chestnut brown color came out a very dark Mahogany/red on my usually light brown hair. I am going to order only natural henna hair color from now on.
Merchant Response:
The product contains a small amount of dye to cover stubborn gray hair. Not everyone will need the product for gray coverage. Natural-Colors (the non-gray coverage formula) is 100% natural. This product is 97% natural.
