Do I apply Natural-Laxer to new growth or to the entire hair?
We get this question quite often because people are familiar
with perms and think of the Natural-Laxer as a perm. The reason
you apply a perm to the new growth only is because to apply it to
treated hair over and over again would weaken the hair to the point
where it would become dry, thin and brittle and would eventually wear
completely through. The Natural-Laxer is always applied to the
entire hair. Because it has a gentle, cumulative and therapeutic
impact on the hair, it is actually best to apply to the entire length
of the hair. Think of the Natural-Laxer as a spa treatment for
your hair, not as a perm.
Is Natural-Laxer safe for use on permed hair?
The Natural-Laxer will strengthen permed hair, reducing
shedding and breakage. Therefore, it is safe for use on permed
hair and is useful in transitioning from permed to natural hair. Hair
that has had the Natural-Laxer can be permed, with no fear of damage
from the Natural-Laxer and with no waiting period. In fact, the
Natural-Laxer helps protect hair if used before a perm.
How often should I
apply the Natural-Laxer to virgin hair?
Generally, we recommend three initial applications. One
application per 7-10 days for three weeks or so. Then, one
application every 4-8 weeks, or as needed. Applying more often
will not harm your hair. The reason for three initial
applications is that is the amount it generally takes to see the full
effects of the Natural-Laxer. Because the product is all natural
and gentle, for most people, it does not make an immediate, drastic
change to the appearance of the hair.
What is
Natural-Laxer made of?
One ingredient. An evergreen called Daphne Gnidium, ground into a
fine powder. Natural-Laxer contains NO CHEMICALS and no additives.
How long has Natural-Laxer been sold in the U.S.?
Natural-Laxer has been on the market in the U.S. since 1990. It
has been used in Africa for much, much longer than that.
Is Natural-Laxer permanent?
Natural-Laxer is not permanent. If you want your hair to go back
to its natural state, it will gradually return to the way it was before
you began using the product. To maintain the
Natural-Laxer relaxation, simply reapply as the instructions indicate.
Is Natural-Laxer toxic?
Natural-Laxer is pure Daphne Gnidium- an evergreen that grows in the
Mediterranean and Africa. Used as directed, Natural-Laxer is not
harmful. Natural-Laxer is toxic if ingested (eaten). To put
this in perspective, many common houseplants are toxic.
Natural-Laxer is safe and effective when used as directed.
We
suggest doing an allergy test before applying. You should do this
before putting anything new on your scalp and/or
hair. Natural-Laxer has a 13 year track record in the U.S.
The product has been proven and tested (not animal tested).
Is Natural-Laxer the same as Rio, Copa, African Wonders' NaturalaxerTM
or Gold Medal "natural relaxers"?
Natural-Laxer is not the same as any of the above products. Without
saying anything derogatory about them, Natural-Laxer is 100% pure and
natural. It is not a formulated product. You will
get different results from Natural-Laxer than from these other
products. Many people have heard about the problems with Rio and
because Rio was marketed as a "natural relaxer", they associate
Natural-Laxer with Rio. The two products are not the same. Rio
was found to contain chemicals. Natural-Laxer does not.
There is a very similarly named product on the market called
Naturalaxer (from African Wonders). This is not the same product
as Natural-Laxer from Baka Beauty. Natural-Laxer contains no
chemicals and no additives.
Is Natural-Laxer safe for use in colored hair?
Natural-Laxer is safe for use in all hair types with a few exceptions.
It is not recommended for pure gray, white or blonde hair as it
can discolor those shades. It is safe for use over colored hair
and hair can be colored the same day after applying Natural-Laxer.
Is Natural-Laxer safe for damaged hair?
Natural-Laxer is not only safe for damaged hair, it is recommended.
Breakage and shedding will decrease or stop with the use of
Natural-Laxer.
How many
applications will I get from a package of Natural-Laxer?
Each package is enough for one application. Generally, we
recommend three applications, one week apart for virgin, natural hair.
Is the Sahara Clay
necessary?
The Sahara Clay will enhance the effect of the Natural-Laxer. It
continues the opening of the curl pattern and provides a smooth, silk
finish and a deep cleansing of the hair. It is not a required
step. But, it is recommended. Sahara Clay is also an
alternative natural relaxer for those with light colored hair (blond,
platinum blonde or pure white) whose hair may stain from use of the
Natural-Laxer
Do I need a heat
cap or hood hair dryer?
Natural-Laxer can be left on for a longer time and used without a heat
source. However, the heat does allow the Natural-Laxer to deeply
penetrate the hair and you will see a better result with heat.
What hair types
can benefit from the Natural-Laxer?
Many hair types can benefit from the Natural-Laxer. While it has
been used primarily on African, kinky hair to make it more manageable,
the Natural-Laxer has helped many others with the manageability of
their hair also. It is great for biracial hair that tends to be
very curly, but soft and sometimes fine. Biracial people often
find their hair cannot tolerate the harsh chemical treatments used on
primarily African hair. Because it tends to begin softer,
biracial hair often sees quicker results with the Natural-Laxer.
The same is true of Jewish, Italians and others who have used the
Natural-Laxer to smooth the frizzy "halo" effect they sometimes have
from unruly hair. Generally, the softer the hair is to
begin with, the faster the person will see results from the
Natural-Laxer.
Can the
Natural-Laxer or Sahara Clay damage my hair?
Natural-Laxer will not damage your hair. Sahara Clay will
not damage your hair. Unlike chemical relaxers, both are
extremely mild and gentle. However, we do caution clients to
follow all directions concerning the use of the products. We
particularly emphasize moisturizing thoroughly after using them.
Both herbal treatments (like the Natural-Laxer and Henna) and clay
treatments tend to be drying to the hair and scalp. Therefore, it
is particularly important to replace oils and water in the hair after
using these treatments.
Why don't you have
before and after pictures?
There is basically one reason we do not offer before and after
pictures of the Natural-Laxer. We do not want to set false
expectations. Other "natural" relaxer websites show dramatic
before and after pictures; where it is obvious more than just a natural
treatment has been applied to the hair. There is no all natural
treatment that will make kinky hair bone straight. If someone
tries to sell you on that idea, run away. The Natural-Laxer is
gentle, effective and a wonderful treatment for people who want to wear
their hair in natural styles but have it be more manageable. It
is great for people who want to press their hair or blow dry it
straight as it will keep the hair from reverting as quickly as it
otherwise would. However, the Natural-Laxer does not drastically
alter the appearance of most people's hair. Because it is so mild
and all natural, everyone will get a slightly different result.
We have had clients who report what they consider to be dramatic
changes in the appearance of their hair. But, generally speaking,
the appeal of the Natural-Laxer is in the manageability it gives to the
hair, not in dramatic differences in appearance.
