Q.
How often should I shave?
A. Shave as often as needed to maintain a clean shaven look. If you
suffer from razor bumps, it's best to shave daily. Regular use of our
products can make this possible.
Q. Which direction should I shave, up
or down?
A. You should shave in the direction of your hair growth. Hair
grows downward on most men. Do not shave "against the grain".
Q. What type of razor should I use?
A. While razor bumps are still a problem, you should use a fixed head,
single blade razor initially. Once razor bumps are under control, you
can switch to a twin blade for a closer shave.
Q. Why use a single blade? Isn't a
twin blade better?
A. A single blade should be used, initially, to avoid the pulling of
hairs that occurs with a twin blade.
Q. Which is better for my skin-
depilatories (chemical shaving) or using a razor? I've heard
depilatories reduce irritation.
A. While depilatories do avoid the nicks and scraping associated with
razor shaving, the active ingredient in depilatories dissolve the hair
follicle and often cause skin irritation. Over time, this actually
irritates the skin more than shaving properly with a clean, sharp razor.
Shaving with a clean, sharp razor is the healthier alternative for the
best skin care.
Q. Which system is better, Black
Opal or Shaver's Choice?
A. Both systems work very well.Since each person's skin is unique, one
may work better than the other for you. But, both work for most
men with razor bump problems.
Chemical Shaving Tips (Depilatory)
Because of razor irritation, many
black men have turned to chemical methods of shaving. However, this may
not completely eliminate the problem of ingrown hairs. If problems
already exist as the result of using chemicals to shave, apply Shaver's
Choice After Shave Skin Therapy for two to three days prior to shaving.
This allows you to shave with less irritation.
- Shave daily. The Shaver's Choice system will help
straighten the hair. Shave daily to avoid giving the hair a chance to
re-curl.
- Do not wash or clean the face prior to using shaving
chemicals. This allows the top layer of old skin to act as a barrier to
the harsh chemicals coming in contact with the skin.
- Shave as usual.
- Rinse off all remaining shaving chemicals with cool tap water.
- Blot the face dry with a towel.
- Apply Shaver's Choice After Shave Skin Therapy by massaging avery
small amount into the skin with circular motions. Do not rinse the face
after applying.

Foaming Gel combines lanolin and oils with exclusive hair strengthening ingredients for a smooth shave with no rinsing. Black Opal
Desensitizing Clear Shave Gel provides a protective surface for shaving.
- To use, wet face or hands, squeeze dime size amount in palm of
hand and work into desired lather. Apply to shaving area.
- Shave in long and steady strokes starting high by the ears and
moving downward and inward toward the chin. This motion helps because
the hairs are toughest at the front of the chin and it allows those to
be exposed to the shaving cream longest and become softer. The blade
must remain as clean as possible, so rinse it in hot water after each
pass. Generally speaking, it is not a good idea to shave from the lower
jaw or chin and move upward, which is typically called "against the
grain". This may give a closer shave. But, can cause irritation.
- Wipe any excess lather off your face and make sure you haven't
overlooked any unseen hairs. If you missed an area, simply wet the area
to cause more lather and shave.
- Rinse your face with cool water and wipe dry. Rinsing is
not required with Shaver's
Choice, making it an excellent choice for use when water is not
available. Rinsing with cool water, reduces the irritation of nicks and
helps stop bleeding.
- Apply a very small amount of Shaver's Choice After Shave
Skin Therapy or Black Opal After Shave Relief Lotion by massaging into
the skin with circular motions. Do not rinse face after applying. For
best results, use the After Shave twice per day.
